Major Cedar Rapids Road Closures To Force Detours Starting Monday
This is not going to be fun. Two different heavily-traveled roads in Cedar Rapids are facing closure in a couple different areas starting Monday, October 16.
The Canadian National Railroad is going to be replacing two crossings. The first closure will impact traffic on Blairs Ferry Road at the railroad crossing immediately east of I-380. The eastbound detour will be:
- Southbound I-380 frontage road to Collins Road.
- Collins Road east to Center Point Road.
- Center Point road north to Blairs Ferry.
The westbound detour will be:
- South on Center Point Road to Collins Road.
- Collins Road to the northbound I-380 frontage road.
- Frontage road north to Blairs Ferry Road.
No I-380 on-ramps will be affected by this closure, which will start Monday the 16th, and hopefully, be concluded by Friday the 20th.
The second closure begins Monday, October 23, and will be at the 42nd Street railroad tracks, just east of I-380. The eastbound detour for this closure will be:
- Northbound frontage road along I-380 to Collins Road.
- Collins Road east to Center Point Road.
- Center Point Road south back to 42nd Street.
The westbound detour will be:
- North on Center Point Road to Collins Road.
- Collins Road to the southbound I-380 frontage road.
- I-380 frontage road back to 42nd Street.
This closure is also expected to last five days, concluding on Friday, the 27th.
I highly recommend you steer clear of both of these areas over the next two weeks. I expect backups, especially from the Blairs Ferry Road closures. However, I'm sure the work will result in smoother crossings, which we'll all appreciate... once we get there.
