Walkers and bicyclists got access to the now-complete four-mile stretch of highway two weeks ago, now it's time for vehicles to hit the new pavement.

According to a press release from the Iowa Department of Transportation, "this section of the extended Iowa 100 is tentatively scheduled to open to traffic Thursday afternoon, December 15, weather permitting, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation's Cedar Rapids construction office."

This portion of the Highway 100 extension will connect Edgewood Road and Covington Road. The remaining four miles still to be completed will continue from Covington Road south to Highway 30. Cathy Cutler, Transportation Planner for the Iowa Department of Transportation's 6th District, told me earlier this month that portion of the extension will hopefully be completed late in 2018.
