Highway 965 Bridge Closing For Months
A bridge that sees nearly 2,000 vehicles per day, closes immediately after Labor Day.
The Highway 965 bridge, which has seen one lane of alternating traffic since a weight limit went into effect in May, closes for repairs at 7 a.m. Tuesday, September 6. The bridge is closing to repair the deck of the bridge, where cracks were found months ago. If the weather cooperates, the project should be done, and the bridge fully reopened to traffic, sometime around Thanksgiving.
If you use the 965 bridge, there will be a detour in place. It will include 120th Street in Swisher, Interstate 380, and Penn Street in North Liberty.
I know what you're thinking... I-380 and Penn Street don't need any more traffic. You won't get an argument from me, but unfortunately, there aren't many choices. Travel safe on that daily commute. An accident on I-380 could be an even bigger problem than normal since the alternate route that so many prefer, won't be an option for a long time.
