Sugapeach Offers Up Some Sweet Soulful Eats
I hate to admit it, Iowa, but my girlfriend and I were feeling a little homesick today. As much as we love the area, the people, the weather, and the general MidWest charm up here, there's just one thing that's been missing, and we didn't realize how much we were missing it, until we got a dose this afternoon.
I'm talking, good ole-fashioned Southern cookin', and Sugapeach Chicken and Fish Fry in North Liberty is serving it up daily by the golden fried basket!
As soon as we walked into Sugapeach we were welcomed with an aroma that took us right back to kitchens that we knew from our childhood. The steam table with piles of freshly fried chicken and a multitude of sides was a sight for sore Louisiana eyes.
Sugapeach is owned and operated by a husband and wife team (she from Georgia and he from Chicago) and they have captured a vibe here in the Corridor that, from what they say, was missing.
Each entree comes with two delicious sides, a sweet cornbread muffin, and a respectable hot sauce. Being from Louisiana, I was expecting a little more kick in my hot sauce, but I'm sure it does the job for the more tender Midwest palate. (I'm kidding...OK...I'm not.)
Although they have pulled inspiration from great Soul Food restaurants from across the country, Sugapeach is definitely in a league of their own in Eastern Iowa!
If you want flavorful, juicy, authentic Southern fried chicken at a good price, you have to swing by Sugapeach!
Next time, I'm getting some cobbler...and trust me...there will be a next time!
