Meet This Week’s Kid Captain — Flynn Lanferman [VIDEO]

The Iowa vs. Iowa State game is coming up this weekend, and 12-year-old Flynn of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa will be honored as the Kid Captain!

College football season has officially begun! Last weekend the Hawkeyes took on Wyoming at home, and this weekend they're headed for Ames to take on Iowa State. Every good football team needs a captain, and luckily the Hawkeyes have a 'Kid Captain' scheduled for every game! This week's Kid Captain is Flynn Lanferman of Mt. Pleasant, a 12-year-old with an incredible story.

In his short 12-years of life, Flynn has beaten cancer not once, but FOUR times. At the age of three, he was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. His treatment ended in 2011 after over three years of chemo, but later that year the cancer returned. In 2012 he underwent a bone marrow transplant, but several years later, the cancer came back AGAIN.  After that, Flynn did more chemo and had a stem cell transplant, but another 10 months later, he relapsed for the third time. In 2016, Flynn’s father donated his bone marrow for another transplant. Despite his continuous struggles, Flynn is an incredibly brave kid who maintains a very positive attitude.
