Waterloo Police are investigating exactly what happened in the city early this morning when calls reporting a stabbing and vehicle fire came into authorities, two minutes apart.

The first call to authorities happened at 2:17 am. It came from a home in the 700 block of Burbank Avenue where a woman was treating her female neighbor, who had multiple stab wounds. The injured woman told police she was stabbed by a man she had been in a vehicle with. When she exited, she told authorities that he drove off. The woman, who has not been identified, suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Then, at 2:19 am, the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier says a vehicle crash and fire was reported near Kimball Avenue and Park Lane. The SUV on fire at that location matched a vehicle described in the stabbing incident. Emergency crews found the body of a deceased male inside the SUV.

The man's name has not been released. An autopsy is being conducted.
