One Person Dead Following Cedar Rapids Crash
A Tuesday morning accident in Cedar Rapids has turned deadly.
Cedar Rapids Police, as well as Cedar Rapids firefighters and ambulance personnel, responded to an accident at the corner of 1st Avenue and 32nd St NE Tuesday morning at 8:37. The accident involved a 2013 MINI Cooper and a 1994 Mack dump truck.
54-year-old David McNeal of Vinton was driving the Mack truck and wasn't injured.
44-year-old Deah Paulson of Iowa City was driving the MINI Cooper with 40-year-old Ian Austin of Lisbon also in the vehicle. Both were taken to Unity Point-St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids with serious injuries. A media release from the Cedar Rapids Police Department says Austin died from his injuries Tuesday evening.
The investigation into the accident continues. Austin is the third person killed in Cedar Rapids this week. Sunday afternoon, two Ely men were killed when their vehicle was struck by a train on C St. SW in Cedar Rapids.
