One Person Killed in Cedar Rapids Officer-Involved Shooting
One person is dead after a shooting involving two Cedar Rapids Police Officers early Tuesday morning.
According to a media release from the Cedar Rapids Police Department, two officers responded to a domestic disturbance at Inn Circle, at 5560 6th Street SW in Cedar Rapids, just before 1 a.m. Tuesday morning.
Once on the scene, the officers came across a man who was brandishing a weapon. The officers fired their weapons, striking the man who suffered fatal injuries. The Office of the Iowa State Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy. Neither of the officers was injured.
The Cedar Rapids Police Department contacted the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) and requested that they investigate the incident. The officers have been placed on administrative leave during the DCI's investigation.
The victim was identified early Tuesday afternoon as 22-year-old William I. Rich of Cedar Rapids. The officers' names will be released following their interviews by the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation.
According to the Hawkeye Area Community Action Program (HACAP) website, they operate Inn Circle at 5560 6th St. SW in Cedar Rapids as a transitional housing site. It is one of nine in the Cedar Rapids metro.
