Last Monday night, November 21st, 53-year-old Guadalupe Salgado Bernal of Ossian was driving just north of West Union when he ended up in a ditch on the side of the road. As a result, a nearby resident came out to help Bernal with their tractor.

According to the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office, the resident was helping pull the vehicle out of the ditch when 64-year-old Susan Lueder drove up to the scene in her 2015 GMC Terrain.

Unfortunately, Bernal was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Gundersen Ambulance and the Fayette County Medical Examiner’s Office.
