Jones Golf Course Repurposing Survey Now Open

CBS2 reports that the City of Cedar Rapids is asking for the community's input on what to do with Jones Park Golf Course. As a cost-saving measure, it was announced that the course that has been long challenged by both ongoing weather issues the city has suffered as well as the COVID-19 pandemic would be closed down permanently and turned into something else. They are asking for help in deciding on short-term projects to repurpose the course that could take place within the next two years.

Jones Park is located between Wilson Ave. Dr. SW and the Cedar River, and the city will look for ideas that will fit into the fiscal year budget from July 2021 and June 2022.

The city has made suggestions including a pickleball court, dog park, outdoor basketball courts, disc golf improvements, and additional pollinator areas. You can weigh in with your own ideas as well through the survey that will stay open through March 5. Get access to it here.

They will ask you to choose from the ideas above and/or chime in with your own after a series of questions that includes your general usage and experience with Jones Park and Golf Course and some other informal anonymous details.

CBS2 spoke to Cedar Rapids Parks & Recreation Director Scott Hock who said:

we are excited to begin the process of redesigning Jones Park with amenities that meet the diverse needs of the public. We have the opportunity to do a few projects quickly, some that we don’t have anywhere else in the park system
