If you or someone you know is in need of fresh produce, Feed Iowa First is here to help! Be on the lookout for the "Veggie Van" this summer!

Feed Iowa First describes itself as a "grass-roots community of businesses, faith organizations, schools, farmers and volunteers that unite in relationship-based service to help our neighbors to ‘Combat Food Insecurity by Growing Food and Farmers.’" The organization believes that fresh, healthy food is a basic human right and wants every Iowan to have access to it.

Feed Iowa First will be sending out their Veggie Van to different Cedar Rapids neighborhoods starting this week. The van will set up shop and give away free produce to anybody that wants some, no questions asked. The best part is that all the produce is locally grown! Here are the locations the Veggie Van will be visiting each week:

  • Tuesdays
    • Jim's Foods from 3 p.m. to 3:45 p.m.
  • Wednesdays
    • Hawthorne Hills Apartments from 3 p.m. to 3:45 p.m.
  • Thursdays
    • Eastern Iowa Health Center from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
    • Glenbrook Apartments from 3 p.m. to 3:45 p.m.
    • Southview Apartments from 4 p.m. to 4:45 p.m.

In addition to the Veggie Van stops, Feed Iowa First will also be adding fresh produce to the Community Fridges at NewBo City Market, Geneva Tower, and Wellington Heights Community Church. For more updates about the Veggie Van, you can follow Feed Iowa First on Facebook HERE.
