Road work continues at the I-380 and I-80 interchange. I quickly found that out as I drove down to Iowa City for radiothon last week. But now, there will be a closure that will likely affect a lot of drivers.

According to the Iowa Department of Transportation, the ramp from westbound I-80 to northbound I-380 will be closed nightly 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. through August 28th. The closure will be extended this coming weekend from 8 a.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. on Sunday. Drivers trying to go northbound on I-380 from westbound I-80 will be detoured to Exit 237 at Tiffin, then rerouted to I-80 eastbound and continue to the I-380 northbound ramp.

Also on Monday and Tuesday, the ramp from I-80 eastbound to Highway 218 southbound will be closed from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Drivers heading south will need to go to the Coral Ridge Avenue exit and backtrack on I-80.

The DOT says that the closures are necessary to place new beams up without traffic driving underneath them.
