UPDATE, 12:40 p.m., 1/6/22: Statewide IA 511 says I-380 Southbound has reopened to traffic from Exit 23 - 42nd Street to Exit 22 - 32nd Street and Glass Road

This morning there have been reports of a semi crash on I-380. According to KCRG, as of 10:33 this morning (Thursday), I-380 southbound was completely blocked between Exit 23 (42nd Street) and Exit 22 (32nd Street and Glass Road) due to a crash.

It is reported by the Cedar Rapids Police Department that the crash incident took place around 9:30 a.m. and was caused by a motorist driving the wrong way on the interstate. It was also noted by several witnesses that a man was seen getting out of a car and removing his clothing near a school. According to KCRG, the wrong-way driver hit multiple vehicles before exiting the car and stripping naked.

At that point, the semi swerved and dumped a load of grain on the interstate. The other passenger vehicle ended up in the median. The wrong-way driver then kept driving north before hitting another semi and passenger vehicle. Police have not reported the severity of that second crash.

Authorities have also not reported whether there were any injuries in this incident. Officials can not say when the area will be back open to traffic, and the "naked wrong-way driver" who was eventually found at 42nd St. and Glass Rd. NE has been taken to a local hospital for evaluation, with charges pending.
