Kiddos are going to love what's coming to the Iowa State Fair this year.

According to a press release, Elmo and his "Sesame Street" friends are headed to the fair!--Well, sort of. You see every year a giant cow is made of butter and put on display for all Iowans to appreciate. This is a tradition that dates back to 1911, according to the Iowa State Fair's website. Other companion butter sculptures have been created in addition to the cow since 1996. Sarah Pratt of West Des Moines is the fifth butter sculptor we've had since the start. Pratt took over sculpturing in 2006 and this year she will be making a butter cow AND a butter Elmo and friends.

If you're wondering why Elmo and "Sesame Street" characters got the companion sculpture spot, it's because the show is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. Pratt has honored other 50th anniversaries in previous companion sculptures to the butter cow. Those include the 50th anniversary of Dr. Seuss’s Green Eggs and Ham in 2010, and Star Trek's 50th in 2016. Last year, the companion sculpture was of a Waterloo Boy Tractor replica to celebrate the 100th anniversary of John Deere entering the tractor business. You can get more history on the butter sculptures and their sculptors here.

Get ready to see butter Elmo next to his cow pal on display in the John Deere Agriculture Building at the Iowa State Fair August 8-18. Oh, and if you were planning on bringing a knife and bread, don't bother. The butter sculptures are kept behind glass in a refrigerated area. See ya there!
