A couple from Cedar Rapids is making the best out of a bad situation!

According to We Are Iowa, Cedar Rapids resident John Meeker asked his girlfriend Kelsey Siech to marry him on Friday night. The coronavirus can't stop true love! The couple told the news source that “social distancing and our current circumstances” inspired them to get a little creative with their engagement photos. The photos from downtown Cedar Rapids show John getting down on one knee, but instead of just handing Kelsey the ring, he used a long umbrella to pass it to her. The gesture was a playful way to keep the 6-foot social distancing rule, which is something they're all too familiar with.

Both John and Kelsey are healthcare workers here in Cedar Rapids. John is a nurse and Kelsey is a patient mental health counselor. The two actually met at St. Luke’s hospital in 2018. Being in the medical field, the couple is taking the coronavirus pandemic very seriously and are working "round-the-clock."

We're so happy that John and Kelsey were able to find a moment to celebrate their love in the midst of all this chaos, and we thank them for their hard work and dedication to helping people in the Corridor stay healthy! You can read more on their story and see the engagement photos HERE.
