Cedar Rapids Police Reveal Identity of April 15 Murder Victim
[UPDATE TUESDAY, APRIL 20 11:30 AM] Cedar Rapids Police have identified the victim of a Thursday, April 15 homicide as 26-year-old Davvion I. Flemings. No arrests have been made and the investigation in the case continues.
[ORIGINAL STORY] The Cedar Rapids Police Department is investigating a Thursday night shooting on the city's northeast side that killed a 26-year-old man.
According to a media release from Cedar Rapids Police, the City's Joint Communications Center got the first call of shots fired at 9:38 p.m. last night. The caller reported shots fired in the 1600 block of 32nd Street N.E., near Hy-Vee.
While officers were on their way to the scene, the Communications Center received additional calls about gunshots, and one caller reported seeing at least two people running from a home and leaving in a vehicle.
When Cedar Rapids Police Department officers reached the area, they found a victim behind a vehicle that was parked in the driveway of a home in the 1600 block of 32nd Street.
The victim had been shot multiple times and was provided emergency care by officers as well as personnel from Area Ambulance Service and Cedar Rapids firefighters. He was pronounced dead at about 10 p.m. last night. His name is being withheld pending notification of relatives.
The Cedar Rapids Police Department found shell casings in the backyard of the home, near the garage. They say they believe the shooting was a targeted incident. The investigation continues.
