Another honor for Cedar Rapids native Zach Johnson. The two-time major winner has been named as a vice-captain for this year's Ryder Cup even held in Kohler, Wisconsin September 25th through the 27th.

The Gazette reports that U.S. captain Steve Stricker named Johnson as a vice-captain. He'll join Davis Love III and Jimy Fyurk in the role for the Americans. Stricker said, "With the Ryder Cup it is important to surround yourself with quality individuals you can lean on and have the best interests of the team in mind."

Johnson also announced some other changes involving his annual golf tournament held in Cedar Rapids. The Gazette reports that the Zach Johnson Foundation will host a virtual fundraising gala that will be open to the public on June 6th beginning at 7 p.m. It will be streamed live on The Zach Johnson Foundation Facebook page. The changes were made due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. The Zach Johnson Foundation Classic tournament will still go on as scheduled on Monday, July 27th, but will be closed to spectators, vendors, and volunteers.

The Gazette reports that funds raised from the virtual gala will go to benefit and support Kids On Course, a Zach Johnson Foundation program that serves more than 1,000 kids in the Cedar Rapids school district. Kids On Course is based at Grant, Harrison, Hoover, and Van Buren elementary schools, Roosevelt and Wilson middle schools, and Jefferson and Kennedy high schools. Cedar River Academy at Taylor Elementary will be added in August.
