It's strawberry picking season here in Eastern Iowa!

As of last Wednesday, June 2nd, Wilson's Orchard in Iowa City has opened up their strawberry patch for "u-pick." That means you and the family can head down there to pick your own strawberries, plus enjoy a whole bunch of other strawberry products!

According to a recent Facebook post from Wilson's, even though the patch is officially open, they "expect the biggest flush of ripe berries during the week of June 13-20." They've also released their seasonal Strawberry Cider, Strawberry Lemonade Slushies, and other fresh strawberry items. The orchard is open Wednesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

This is actually only the second year that Wilson's has offered fresh strawberries. An article from the Daily Iowan from June of 2020 said that the orchard began planting other fruits in addition to apples so that they would be able to open for more than three months a year. They are now open eight months each year, and other fresh fruits that will be available at various points throughout the summer include blackberries, blueberries, cherries, and peaches. You can read more about the crops they offer throughout the year HERE.

In case you haven't been to Wilson's in a while, late last summer they opened up a new food stand called Wilson's Smokehouse. It's located located on the edge of the main parking lot and features all sorts of delicious BBQ items like brisket, pork shoulder, and chicken. I tried the mac & cheese last September and it was delicious! Get more information on Wilson's Smokehouse HERE.
