Two Cedar Rapidians Make Special Tribute for Utility Workers [VIDEO]
It's safe to say no one who went through it will ever forget the historic storm that swept through Cedar Rapids on August 10, 2020. Days were long without power or internet and we don't want to go through it again, but those who restored our lives back to normal still deserve our gratitude, five months later.
That's why, according to KWWL, a Cedar Rapids insurance agent and realtor have come together to pay tribute to these workers. First, they put together a video. Local celebrities from Alisabeth Von Presley to Orchestra Iowa's Tim Hankewich to Cedar Rapids RoughRiders coach and President Mark Carlson, to Joe Sample, the now-famous advocate and supporter of local restaurants lent their voices and support in thanks to the workers who spent countless hours reconnecting our city.
Not just the video, but Mike Schulte of Coldwell Banker-Hedges Realty (and popular local band the Pork Tornadoes) and State Farm agent Ben Wiemerslage have also coordinated with the Map Room, a restaurant in downtown Cedar Rapids, to donate funds towards a free meal for any utility worker, for up to $25 of their bill.
All a utility worker has to do call the Map Room at (319)362-0417, identify themselves as such and place their order, and the generous $25 offer can be redeemed for curbside pickup or carryout. Their menu is available online but this offer does not apply to orders placed online.
Schulte echoed the sentiment of many in the KWWL story: "that moment when the power finally came back on was an incredible thing that so many people talk about. We can also support these utility workers, do something nice for them but also get some money into the local economy".
