When Deep Frying A Turkey Goes Wrong
Today, we partnered with the Davenport Fire Department to bring an important message in fire safety when it comes to deep-frying your turkey.
So yes, we started a big fire and Davenport Fire put it out, but we were smart enough to have them help us start the fire. Check it out:
Some important things to remember when you're deep frying a turkey:
- Use your fryer only outdoors on a sturdy, level surface and away from things you can burn.
- Have a 3-foot kid-and-pet-free zone around your fryer to avoid burns or spills.
- Determine the correct amount of oil needed by first placing the turkey in the pot with water.
- Make sure your turkey is completely thawed, as partially frozen turkey will cause oil to splatter.
- Turkey fryers can overheat and start a fire, so check the temperature often to keep the oil from overheating.
- Use long cooking gloves to protect your hands and arms, since the handles, lid, and pot will be very hot.
