I wish I would have came up with the idea for traffic cameras in Cedar Rapids. If I did, I would plan on retiring very soon.

According to the Cedar Rapids Gazette, "Motorists are receiving an average of 756 automated traffic enforcement tickets per day."

Holy balls that's a huge number! But the City of Cedar Rapids doesn't get to keep the full amount. In fact, only 64% of the cash stays here. The rest of the loot goes to the city's traffic vendor, Sensys Gatso USA.

That's the only part I don't like. Why does the vendor get such a large piece of the pie? I feel that number should be renegotiated to something like 10 or 15%. We take care of the roads and it's our city...give us a bigger cut!

So far, the city has collected around $2.6 million in traffic fines. I wonder what the plan is for all of that cash?

Maybe we can finally get that water park....

LOL
