Tornado Does Minor Damage In Dubuque County

A cold front swept through Eastern Iowa on Monday night, bringing with it some much-needed rain for many parts of the area. I'll admit, I slept right through the storms that night. But my kids told me how hard it rained and how hard the wind blew. It turns out that those high winds in Dubuque County were something else. A tornado.

Widespread severe weather wasn't reported on Monday night. There were a few stronger cells including one here in Cedar Rapids that brought wind gusts of up to 60 miles per hour. However, the National Weather Service has now confirmed that an EF1 tornado touched down in Dubuque County on Monday. The twister touched down just southwest of the airport. It caused damage to corn, trees, and two houses had parts of their roofs torn off. There were no reports of any injuries. Winds were estimated to be around 100 miles per hour.

The tornado was only on the ground for 0.3 miles and was around 50 yards wide. It was the 36th tornado reported in the state in 2019.
