Three Local News Stations Have Teamed Up for a Derecho Fundraiser
It's not often that rival TV stations team up, but that's exactly what's happening today here in Eastern Iowa. According to KWWL's website, KWWL, KCRG, and KGAN have banded together to help raise money for derecho victims here in the local area.
The collaboration is being referred to as "Eastern Iowa United" and will be happening all day long, culminating in a big broadcasting event at 6:30 p.m. Ron Steele of KWWL, Nicole Agee of KCRG, and Mitch Fick of KGAN will join together for a 30-minute television special at the Ladd Library in Cedar Rapids. It will be broadcasted live on channels 2, 7, and 9. The article says:
"They will discuss what happened, the recovery, long-term plans, the United Way’s efforts to recover and rebuild, and how Eastern Iowans can make a difference right now."
Folks wishing to donate will be able to do so via text or online at WeFightFor.org, with all the money donating various United Way organizations in the area. That includes that United Way of East Central Iowa, the United Way of Johnson and Washington Counties, and the Cedar Valley United Way. On the website, you can actually choose which United Way you'd like your money to go towards. The website reads:
"The Disaster Recovery Fund will be used to address and support the emerging needs of the most vulnerable individuals in our community through funding local health and human service nonprofits who have increased programs and services surrounding this pandemic and for relief for those affected by the derecho storm. Some examples include food, medicine replacements, and sheltering services."
We can't wait to see how much money Eastern Iowans can raise for the community!
