Being single definitely has its perks, but some cities have more perks than others.

The website WalletHub recently published a list of 2019's best and worst cities for singles, and I was happy to see a few Midwest cities in the top 20. A couple of cities in Iowa didn't do too bad, either!

Before we get to the results, we need to know how WalletHub came up with the rankings. The article states:

"To help America’s singles find love, WalletHub compared more than 180 U.S. cities across 35 key indicators of dating-friendliness. Our data set ranges from share of single population to number of online dating opportunities to nightlife options per capita."

The highest-ranked Midwest city is Chicago, coming in at number six. Madison, Wisconsin also made the top ten, coming in at number eight. Minneapolis, Minnesota is number 12.

A couple of Iowa cities made the list, as well. Out of all 182 cities, Des Moines is 58th and Cedar Rapids is 82nd. Cedar Rapids did great in the "Economics" category, coming in 12th overall. That's probably due to being ranked number ONE for "Lowest Rent for a One-Bedroom Apartment." Unfortunately, we did not rank high for "Fun & Recreation" and "Dating Opportunities." You win some, you lose some.

Here are the top 10 cities for singles in the U.S.:

  1. Atlanta, Georgia
  2. Denver, Colorado
  3. San Francisco, California
  4. San Diego, California
  5. Portland, Oregon
  6. Chicago, Illinois
  7. Los Angeles, California
  8. Madison, Wisconsin
  9. Seattle, Washington
  10. Portland, Maine
