An apartment resident in Johnson County was taken to the hospital after a fire at an apartment complex in Coralville Saturday night. The Coralville Fire Department responded to the blaze at around 7:30 p.m. Saturday evening.

The fire was located at an apartment complex at 908 21st Avenue Place in Coralville. Several occupants were in their homes at the time of the fire. They were able to get out in time and reach safety. One person was transported to a local hospital suffering from smoke inhalation.

It took firefighters nearly 45 minutes to put out the blaze and they were on the scene well past midnight and into Sunday morning. The fire was contained to the one apartment and the roof of the building. Other apartments suffered heavy smoke and water damage.

The cause of the blaze is unknown. Residents who have been displaced by the fire are being served by the American Red Cross.
