While the house might be a total loss, a Linn County woman is lucky to be alive after managing to escape her burning home.

The Linn County Sheriff's Office, along with multiple departments, including the Fairfax Fire Department, responded to the scene of a house fire in the 300 block of Burger Lane in Fairfax at around 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, according to KWWL. When crews arrived they found the home fully engulfed in flames.

KWWL reports that the only person inside the home at the time of the blaze was 85-year-old Janis Maas. She was able to escape her burning home safely as firefighters then were able to put out the fire. While her home might have been declared a total loss, officials at the scene say that Haas was lucky to escape the fire with her life. KWWL reports that fire officials believe the cause of the blaze was a likely stove fire in the home.

Among the local crews responding to the scene were Linn County Sheriff Rescue, Cedar Rapids Area Ambulance, and fire departments from Cedar Rapids, Atkins, and Swisher.
