The Cedar Rapids Gazette reports that Linn County reported it's highest single day total of new coronavirus cases since the pandemic began on Thursday. There were 68 new reported cases in the past 24 hours. That total was second in the state to Polk County, which reported 108 new cases yesterday.

Linn County's rolling seven day average on Thursday stood at 42. That is the highest average the county has seen. The rolling seven day average is the average number of positive COVID-19 cases over the past seven days. The numbers are updated daily. The Gazette reports that since March, Linn County has seen 2,229 confirmed cases of coronavirus.

In Johnson County, there were 33 new cases reported on Thursday. That county's seven day rolling average is down to 25. But the county also reported it's 16th death yesterday as well. Twelve other coronavirus deaths were reported on Thursday, bring the total for the state of Iowa up to 907.

The Gazette reports that statewide there were 647 positive cases reported Thursday out of 7,007 tests, for a positivity rate of 9.23%. The number of hospitalized Iowans dropped from 248 to 237. The number of patients in intensive care dropped from 77 to 68, and the number of patients on ventilators fell from 34 to 32.

Linn County ranks 4th in the state in overall cases with Johnson County 5th. Polk County leads with nearly 10,000 cases of coronavirus since March.
