Jaymz Reflects On The 2016 Summer
It's official, summer is over. It won't be long until we're scraping ice off the windshields and shoveling the driveway. It's sad but true.
It was a great season and I have plenty of memories. Here's a list of my top five Cedar Rapids summer moments:
5. Baseball - For the first time since 2004, the Cedar Rapids Kernels hosted the Midwest League All-Star Game. It was a perfect night for baseball. The stands were packed, the beer was cold, and we saw some of the best talent in minor league baseball.
4. Music - My favorite concert of the summer was Bret Michaels at the McGrath Amphitheater. Ratt and Lita Ford opened the show and everyone in attendance had a blast. It may have rained that night...but nobody seemed to care.
3. Golf - I shot my best round in three years this past summer. We played that particular day at Hunter's Ridge in Marion. I'm pretty sure I just got lucky....but I'd rather be lucky then good. I haven't played since. Why would I?
2. Fireworks - I love the 4th of July, it's one of my favorite days of the year. This year we had perfect weather, a Kernels game and the best Cedar Rapids fireworks display I've seen in years.
1. Football - The Hawks beat the Cyclones 42-3 on September 10th. This made my summer complete. They didn't just win, they won by 39 points. That was my number one moment of summer 2016.
It was a great summer! Please share some of your 2016 memories and comment below.
