According to KCRG TV-9, another winter weather system is set to hit eastern Iowa in the overnight hours tonight (Thursday) and continue into New Years Day. The report states that this low pressure system will be moving up from Texas and bringing the possibility of snow, sleet, freezing rain, and rain to the area. Could Cedar Rapids see snow? If so, how much?

Well KCRG says that "who gets what type of precipitation and how much depends on the track of the low which dictates the temperatures and ultimately the type of precipitation specific locations receive." Right now, it appears that we can expect between 1-3" of snowfall in the Cedar Rapids area. Those numbers decrease as you go northwest.

It looks like we could have a white New Years Eve, which is all the more reason to stay safe out there, as driving conditions may not be ideal. Have a safe and happy New Year!
