The Marion Police Department made an arrest this morning following a threat at Vernon Middle School at 1350 4th Avenue. According to a release from the Marion P.D., they were made aware of a threat at the school at 10:41 Tuesday (12/11) morning. A student who was in the school reportedly threatened to use a firearm.

An "immediate and heavy police response" followed the report to Marion Police, who also put the building on lockdown. The release states that the student was taken into custody within ten minutes and the lockdown at the school was lifted.

The Iowa State Patrol, Hiawatha Police Department, and the Linn County Sheriff's Office all assisted at the scene.

The student apprehended Tuesday morning has been charged with 1st Degree Harassment. They were taken to the Linn County Juvenile Detention Center.
