The Cedar Rapids Kernels scored 9 runs in the first inning on Father's Day to beat the Clinton LumberKings in front of 4,000 fans at Perfect Game Field on Sunday.

As the first half of the season comes to a close, this win secures playoff wild card spot for the Kernels. The second half of the season open Thursday as the league now heads into the All Star game in Midland, Michigan on Tuesday night.

It was a fun-filled day at the ballpark Sunday with nearly 4,000 fans cheering on the Kernels, who gave their fans a big thrill with a huge first inning flurry of hits and runs.

Cedar Rapids returns home on Monday, June 26 for a four-game series against the Burlington Bees.

Let's hope the second half of the season is as exciting as the first half has been!
