The Cedar Rapids Kernels are teaming with HACAP and First Federal Credit Union for the Drive-Thru "Homerun for Hunger Food Drive".

Saturday, August 1, it will be held at Veterans Memorial Stadium in the upper parking lot from 10 a.m. to noon and the public is encouraged to donate non-perishable food items as well as canned fruits and vegetables, high protein foods like peanut butter and canned meat. They ask that you not bring donations in glass containers, however, or unpackaged foods.

Bring items you'd like to donate to the parking lot between Kingston Stadium and Veterans Memorial Stadium between 10 a.m. and Noon. For every donation, you will receive a raffle ticket for a chance to win a FREE 50'' TV from First Federal Credit Union. The stadium is located at 950 Rockford Rd. SW.

These are times of great need for so many in our community and HACAP is a vital nonprofit community organization that helps year-round in providing those needs. But they cannot do it without the community's generosity.

According to a First Federal Credit Union press release by their CEO Tom Halstrom: "HomeRun for Hunger volunteers from First Federal Credit Union and the Cedar Rapids Kernels will collect food donations from a convenient drive-thru venue. To promote social distancing, donors will not have to leave their car while volunteers accept the food items. All donated items will be taken to the on-site HACAP Mobile Food Pantry truck and delivered to the food reservoir that serves Linn and surrounding counties."

We're proud to spread the word about this venture.
