Growing up a Denver Broncos fan (and Manchester United plus the Montreal Expos) in New Jersey was always interesting, especially before things like NFL Game Pass, Red Zone, and  Fubo.tv made it much easier that it was before the new millennium.

So when you are a fan in Cedar Rapids, or in fact any part of Iowa, New Mexico, or wherever else you might be without a team of your own, you make the decision on what team to support.

Right now, with the exception of the Minnesota Vikings’ fans in Iowa (1-5, yikes), most NFL supporters in the state are eating good. Kansas City fans are still celebrating the Super Bowl win, and a potential repeat.

The Green Bay Packers are 4-1, and despite the loss last weekend, look like one of the favorites to make a run at another Super Bowl. If you are one of the Chicago Bears’ fans in Iowa, you must be floating right now: 5-1, on top of the NFC North, with four wins from four by four points or less (read that quickly).

But where is the season going to go from here? Right now, with the COVID-19 pandemic still causing games to be moved around, the season may need longer than 17 weeks to finish. Currently, PointsBet Iowa has the Packers (4-1) as heavy favorites to win the NFC North with odds of -175. Much of that has to do with Green Bay’s schedule over the final 11 games. Going into Week 7, the Packers play just two of 11 games against teams with over .500 records: both against the Bears. They get Chicago in Green Bay on the final day of the season, to possibly wrap up the NFC North and a bye in the playoffs.

The Bears are listed at +160 with Iowa sportsbooks, but still have to play the Rams, Titans, Saints, and Packers twice.

I would lock in the Packers at that price, because it is bound to go up very shortly.

Speaking of Manchester United, the Red Devils pulled off a huge +475 upset Tuesday in Paris, beating PSG 2-1 on the first day of UEFA Champions League Group Stage action.

While the win could prove to be massive for Manchester United’s hopes of advancing to the Champions League knockout stages, the Red Devils started their 2020-21 Premier League campaign with two wins and two losses, and are seven points behind leaders Everton, with a game in hand, in the table.

Interestingly, though, PointsBet has United (+2800) just behind Everton (+2000) to win the league. The only team with a perfect record so far, Aston Villa, is still getting no respect at +6000.

Manchester City had been favored to win the title, then a slow start for the Cityzens dropped them behind 2019-20 winners Liverpool in the odds with PointsBet. But a season-ending injury to Ballon d’Or runner up Virgil Van Dijk, who has turned around the fortunes of Liverpool over the last few years, has now shifted the betting odds back in Manchester City’s favor (-121). Liverpool is now pierced at +240, with Tottenham +1200 and Chelsea +1800.

When City gets on a roll in the coming weeks, which Pep Guardiola's side will inevitably do, those odds could look very good. Get them while you can. Also, jump on Manchester United to finish top four at +160.
