Iowa Law – You Can’t Break a Window To Save A Dog in Hot Car
While most pet owners are responsible and take wonderful care of their pets, there are those whose negligence is obvious, especially when you see a dog in a shopping mall parking lot trapped inside a locked car.
But according to the Animal League Defense Fund it is not legal for you as an Iowan to break the window of a car to save a suffocating dog without running the the risk of being arrested.
In fact there are only 29 states in the U.S. that have some kind of "hot car" law that allow someone to help a trapped animal by breaking the window of a car for the purpose of saving a dog's life. Sadly, Iowa is not one of those states.
We think is should be.
