The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation is warning Iowans of another phone scam making its way across the state.

The caller is posing as an employee of what they call the 'Iowa State Police' and tell the caller that they have an out of state warrant for their arrest. If they want to clear the warrant, you guessed it, they need you to pay them. They request the money be placed in an online account like Google Play. If their request is denied or the recipient hangs us, they call back a second time and the caller becomes more aggressive.

The initial call is reportedly coming from a phone number with a 712 area code. DCI says the number from the second call shows up as 911. If you have received one of these calls you are urged to call local law enforcement or the Iowa Attorney General's Office.

The Iowa DCI reminds residents that they will never demand payment via prepaid debit cards or online accounts.
