Things were very wet early this morning at the Graduate Hotel, formerly the Sheraton, in the Ped Mall in Iowa City.

According to CBS 2, the Iowa City Police Department responded to the hotel Thursday morning when a sprinkler head burst. That led to some major water cascading through the hotel, which you can see in the video below. A number of hotel guests were evacuated for a time, but all were able to return to their rooms and no one was injured.

The scene reminded me of one in our building (Plaza 425) in downtown Cedar Rapids. It happened on January 2, 2018 (video below). The temperature in Cedar Rapids had reached -23 that morning, the coldest January 2 on record.

If your pipes at home are prone to freezing, you'll definitely want to watch them in the coming days. Low temperatures both Thursday and Friday night are expected to be in the -10 to -15 range.
