With Shopko stores shutting down and going out of business in Iowa, several of its locations have a major new tenant.

The Gazette reports six different Shopko locations across the state will reopen as HyVee stores by the end of summer. Purchase agreements were signed Monday to acquire the Cresco, Dyersville, Hampton, Oelwein, Vinton and Waukon Shopko stores to turn into HyVee Dollar Fresh stores.

Dollar Fresh is a division of HyVee offering affordable, high-quality groceries to smaller towns.

Shopko was a Wisconsin-based general merchandise retailer that filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in January 2019. The six new stores will double the number of Dollar Fresh locations under HyVee. CEO, President, and board chairman Randy Ecker said:

As we continue to innovate, we’re taking a look at the needs of our rural communities

The new stores will join those in Centerville, Creston, Emmetsburg, Osceola and Toledo in Iowa, as well as one in West Point, Nebraska.

HyVee among all its brands has 265 stores across the midwest.
