Here's the race that has every dog wagging it's tail: The 2019 BIG DOG in Town of Hiawatha!

In celebration of the new Hiawatha Dog Park that is now under construction, the city has created the BIG DOG in Town competition to crown one lovable pet as the city's first BIG DOG!

Size of course really doesn't mater, its the personality that counts. According to the city of Hiawatha's website, the Big Dog honor will be bestowed on one lucky pooch who will then represent the city for a one year term.

The first BIG DOG will be announced at the Hiawatha Fun Fest, on August 2nd-3rd, and will also attend the ribbon cutting ceremony that will open Hiawatha's new Dog Park in the Spring of 2020.

There are some official rules that needs to be obeyed: The winning dog must reside in the 52233 zip code, and must be up to date on all vaccinations.

The winning pooch will also be expected to attend various functions, events and activities throughout the year.

It costs $5 to nominate your dog and $1 for each vote you want to cast. You can stop by Hiawatha City Hall before July 5 to nominate your pet. Voting begins on July 8.

Funds raised will help offset the cost of the new Dog Park, which of course has everyone's tail wagging.
