This dust has traveled 5,000 miles across the Atlantic Ocean from the Sahara Desert in Africa. It has now reached the gulf coast after first being spotted leaving Africa on June 14th.

Health Department officials expect the dust to continue into Louisiana through Friday. The reduced air quality could raise health concerns for people with conditions like asthma, bronchitis and heart disease.

The dust particles could also lead to some amazing sunrises and sunsets.
