The Field of Dreams Movie Site continues to take shape as the “Bring It Home” capital campaign moves forward with new recognition efforts tied to its ongoing ballpark development and renovations. The latest announcement highlights a tribute to longtime Iowa broadcaster Gary Dolphin, who I'm proud to call a friend and colleague. His name will soon be permanently associated with the press box at the new stadium in Dyersville, in addition to being the Iowa's "Voice of the Hawkeyes."

According to a recent press release, the naming initiative is designed to recognize Dolphin’s extensive impact on Iowa sports, broadcasting, and community engagement. The new press box will be a symbolic space honoring a voice that's helped shape Iowa’s sports culture for decades.

The effort is being guided by Iowa businessman and philanthropist Ron Kirchhoff. Looking big picture, the name and recognition is appropriate for the Field of Dreams. The ballpark is naturally associated with storytelling, nostalgia, and the shared experience of competition in athletics.

“Gary Dolphin has been one of the great voices and ambassadors for the State of Iowa for decades. He’s brought people together through sports, community, and storytelling, and this is a meaningful way to recognize everything he has given back to Iowa. The Field of Dreams represents the very best of our state, and honoring Gary there just feels right.”

-Ron Kirchhoff, “Bring It Home” Campaign National Advisory Board

The broader Field of Dreams project is being led by Dyersville Events, Inc. Through the “Bring It Home” campaign, the organization is expanding the site with a mix of professional and youth baseball facilities, educational programming, and upgraded visitor amenities, all while preserving the iconic movie field and farmhouse. Other local leaders, and the state of Iowa, have promised a total of $13 million in additional funding to the parks growth.

“Gary Dolphin has helped define some of Iowa’s most memorable moments and has spent a lifetime championing our communities, student-athletes, and traditions. As we build this new chapter at the Field of Dreams, it is fitting that Gary’s name and legacy become part of a place that means so much to people across Iowa and across the country.”

-Mike Decker, Board Chair of Dyersville Events

Fundraising for the naming effort has reached nearly half of the $500,000 goal, with additional donations accepted through August 13th, 2026. The timeline is set for the return of Major League Baseball to the site as the Phillies take on the Twins. The nationally televised game is expected to bring renewed attention to the project. Additionally, Kirchhoff has pledged to match contributions with a charitable gift to Iowa Athletics in Dolphin’s honor.
