Derrick Stroup Running Hot Tour Comes to Cedar Rapids

Derrick Stroup will perform live on Friday, September 25th, at the Paramount Theatre in Cedar Rapids. The show is part of his first-ever Running Hot theater tour and gives local comedy fans a chance to see one of the fastest-rising names in stand-up.

Derrick Stroup is an Alabama native, who has built a reputation for his rapid-fire storytelling and over-the-top energy. Rather than taking the slow-talking Southern stereotype, Stroup delivers his stories with what has been described as the cadence of an angry auctioneer.

His comedy career has continued its rise after his debut on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in 2023 He returned to the show in 2025, and recently made his third appearance. Additionally, Stroup's debut Netflix special, Nostalgic, premiered globally on March 10th and quickly landed in the Top 10 shows in the United States. The special takes a look back at Stroup's childhood as a 90's kid growing up in rural Alabama, covering everything from partying with friends and playing board games to relationships with his parents.

Stroup has also shared the stage and toured alongside some of the biggest names in comedy, including Bert Kreischer, Larry the Cable Guy, John Crist and Nate Bargatze. He can also be seen performing at the world-famous Comedy Cellar in New York City while continuing to headline comedy clubs and theaters across the country.

His work expands beyond stand-up as well. Stroup appeared in Nate Bargatze's Christmas special in 2024, produced by Bargatze and Lorne Michaels. He is also set to appear in the upcoming film The Breadwinner, which was co-written by Bargatze and directed by Eric Appel.
