The Cedar Rapids library announced on Monday that they are one of five finalists for the 2017 National Medal for Museum and Library Service. The award is the highest honor given to museums and libraries for their service to the community.

The president of the library believes that the Cedar Rapids library is nominated because of how well they've been able to recover since the flood of 2008. That flood destroyed the old public library location.

Library officials are urging patrons of the facility to tell them what the library means to them. You can record your story at the library. The winner of the National Medal for Museum and Library Service will be announced in April.
