Remember when there weren't any cones or road closures on 42nd street in Cedar Rapids? After a long summer full of them, the city is getting ready to reopen the roadway. Officials say work should finish and the roadway should be open within a week.

The project on 42nd from I-380 to Wenig Road began last spring. Among the improvements are new pavement, utilities, bike and turning lanes.

The reopening will make life easier for students at Cedar Rapids Kennedy and Xavier schools as well.
