Will Cedar Rapids Elect a Rock N Roll Mayor?
Jake Brummer is running for Mayor of Cedar Rapids.
Known as the rock n roll dad who loves taking his son Jack to classic rock concerts, Jake has been a guest on KRNA radio many times over the past few years. Brummer has privately mentioned to many of his friends his intentions of running for civic office, but now he has made it official.
According to a press release issued by Brummer on Monday, Jake is running on a platform as one for the common man. He says he wants to see improvements on spending equal amounts of funding to improve all quadrants of Cedar Rapids.
Brummer is a small business owner and family man who pledges to run a campaign representing the everyday people of Cedar Rapids. Jake adds that he hopes to encourage more citizens to become involved in the process of the city's business, specifically in the city council. He believes he is someone that residents can relate to, and by holding the office of mayor, he can accomplish many of his goals.
Jake and his partner Amy Winker are small business owners who currently operate the Red Frog at 88 16th Ave SW. in Czech Village. Last year, the two opened the Kingston Pub on 1st Ave. SW. But that business, like many others, was closed due to the pandemic and prolonged by the August 10 derecho which caused major damaged to the building.
The news of his candidacy made headlines on KCRG, following the news that current Cedar Rapids Mayor Brad Hart will be seeking re-election. It's also been revealed that former local TV news anchor Tiffany O'Donnell and local businesswoman Amara Andres have each announced that they are also planning to run for Mayor.
