There's a Billy Currington song called "Pretty Good at Drinking Beer" and it turns out that Iowans are just pretty good at drinking. Iowa doesn't care if it's beer, liquor, or wine. It should go without saying that if you or someone you know suffers from an addiction to alcohol, please call 800-273-8255. That phone number will lead you to an Iowa-based resource center and is also Iowa's alcoholism helpline. The results from this study could be considered a bit shocking.

According to Sioux Land Proud, the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute has released its study on quality of life, on a state-by-state basis. One of the determining factors in this study was excessive drinking. It turns out that Iowa really enjoys alcohol, more than almost every state in the U.S.

According to the study, excessive drinking was labeled as "binge drinking" or "heavy drinking." Binge drinking was considered 4 or more drinks on one occasion for women and 5 or more for men. Heavy drinking was 8 or more drinks a week for women and 15 or more for men.

The University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute discovered that Wisconsin was home to the most excessive drinkers. 26% of Wisconsin adults considered themselves excessive drinkers. Following right behind Wisconsin were Iowa, Montana, Nebraska, and North Dakota, according to Sioux Land Proud.

This study reports that 25% of Iowa adults reported being excessive drinkers and these two counties were reported as the highest.

Both Dubuque and Buchanan counties reported having 27% of adults who are considered to be excessive drinkers. Both these eastern Iowa counties beat out the state average by 2%. There were some counties that weren't too far behind as Palo Alto, Boone, Carroll, Chickasaw, Winneshiek, and Lee, all reported 26% of adults being excessive drinkers.
