A morning standoff that lasted nearly 8 hours, ended with the arrest of a Wisconsin man Wednesday morning.

According to our news partner, KCRG, 47-year-old Simone S. Hughes locked himself in a home in the 100 block of East Parker on Waterloo's northeast side at approximately 1:30 Wednesday morning. A tip had been provided to authorities that Hughes was inside the house.

The Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier reports that he later ran from Waterloo police and tactical teams and hid inside a garage, in a vehicle inside. It was around 9:20 Wednesday morning that he was finally arrested. He was initially taken to a hospital for observation due to threats he was making to harm himself.

Police in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where Hughes lives, have been searching for him since an incident in that city on Thursday, January 6. He is accused of shooting and killing his 41-year-old girlfriend, Quinette Walters. Their teenage daughter was in the home at the time and told officers that when her mother ran from the house during an argument, Hughes shot her. A neighbor told the Milwaukee Sentinel Journal that he witnessed Hughes shoot Walters twice while standing over her.

The daughter of Hughes and Walters escaped back into the home after her mother was shot, running upstairs. The Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier says she locked herself in a room, and Hughes shot through the door. The 14-year-old girl then jumped from the second-story window and Hughes reportedly shot her multiple times from the window afterwards.
