Earlier this week, Waterloo resident and disability advocate Tyler Greene was involved in an accident that led to his death. Greene was making his way in his wheelchair along West Fourth Street near the Allen Street intersection when it happened. A 24-year-old driving a Ford Edge struck him as he was crossing the street on November 8th.

Greene was flown to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City following the incident, as reported by the Waterloo Courier. The 31-year-old man suffered from brain swelling after the ordeal.

According to police reports, the driver of the vehicle claims that at the time of the incident (3:30 PM approximately) the setting sun was in her eyes. This led to her not seeing Greene until the very last moment; when it was too late.

Two days later, on November 10th, Greene passed due to the injuries from the accident.

Tyler had cerebral palsy and used his own experience to advocate for other people within the disability community. He started his lifelong commitment to activism when he was only 8-years-old, as reported by KWWL.

There is no word on when funeral services will be held as of Friday morning. The family is still figuring out final arrangements for the Waterloo man.
