Our friends at The Eastern Iowa Airport are looking for some young artists to help with a cool new project to spruce up the walls at CID.

The airport is putting out a call to all young artists in grades K-12 to submit "travel-themed artwork," to be a part of the art installation in the airport's new gallery.

Students are encouraged to create a picture that depicts something related to travel, airports or aviation. Once completed, students can send the artwork to the airport for consideration of being part of the display.

I love the idea of this program and I think it's awesome our young artists here in Eastern Iowa will have an opportunity to be showcased! Special thanks to the entire team at CID for thinking of the kids during this crazy time in our world.

I spoke with Pam Hinman, Director of Marketing & Communications at CID. She told me, "We have had a tremendous response already, and we're excited to see what students will send in. We had been working on a plan to curate are for the gallery space, but with everything happening due to COVID-19, it made sense to pivot those plans and showcase some students' work."

With schools closed, this will be a fun project for the kids to work on. And with so many people that had to break travel plans, hopefully, when things get better, they'll be able to re-schedule their trip with the family and the kids will get to see their artwork on display at CID as they head to their destination!

CID will choose up to 50 student's drawings to be displayed July 1 - December 31, 2020. The deadline for this project is 4 p.m. on Friday, May 22nd.

Artwork must be on paper, either 8.5 inches by 11 inches (portrait or landscape) or 11 inches by 17 inches.

To submit artwork, include:

  • Your name
  • Age
  • School
  • Grade in the 2019-2020 school year
  • Parent or guardian name
  • Address
  • Phone number & email address

You can send your submissions to Pam Hinman at the Eastern Iowa Airport. The address is 2515 Arthur Collins Pkwy SW in Cedar Rapids. The zip code is 52404.

The artwork will be displayed in frames supplied by CID. The framed artwork will be returned to the students at the end of the year.

The airport will not be able to return submissions not accepted for display.

Good luck!
