The Eastern Iowa Honor Flight connects military veterans and their guardians with trips out of the Eastern Iowa Airport (CID) to Washington, D.C. to visit the sites of the national monuments for their fallen fellow war heroes of all military branches. They often also get to meet fellow heroes or reunite with comrades.

Not only do they get to make that memorable trip, but they are also welcomed back by the public to a hero's ovation at CID upon their return. Those who have had a chance to take part in either the trip or the welcome back events will never forget it.

This great organization and program will not go on with any of its remaining flights in 2020, according to the Gazette.

The decision was, as you might expect, made with the intention of slowing the spread of Coronavirus between our great veterans. They will work to secure dates for flights in April, May, September and October of 2021, says Eastern Iowa Honor Flight spokesperson Dick Bell.

Veterans of the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, Coast Guard, Reserves, and National Guard are invited on the Honor Flight trips. We thank them for their service and we love the Eastern Iowa Honor Flight, who serves veterans in the areas of  Benton, Iowa, Jasper, Jones, Johnson, Linn, Marshall, South Tama, Poweshiek and Washington counties for giving them this opportunity, and for keeping their safety in mind.
