Burgers have been eaten, votes have been cast, and the best burgers were chosen for both New York and Iowa. But, this is not where these burgers’ journeys end. Both burgers were put to the test as they competed in the 2022 burger battle competition.

Over a month ago, both Iowa and New York announced their best burgers. The selection process in both states is very similar- it starts with a public vote, then gets narrowed down to the final few that a team of judges votes on.

On June 6th, burger lovers were asked for one final vote; who has the best burger, The Flying Elbow in Iowa or Ale n’ Angus Pub in New York?

Voting closed on June 13th and the results have been tallied up. With 2,953 votes, the best burger title is staying in Iowa for the second year in a row.

Iowa’s Best Burger is the Tombstone Smashburger from The Flying Elbow in Marshalltown. The burger itself features a blend of chuck, brisket, and short rib, which is fresh, never frozen, and sourced from Midwest cattle. It also contains Wagyu beef, raised by a Marshalltown producer. The winning Tombstone burger toppings consist of Manchego cheese, guacamole, bacon, sour cream, shredded lettuce, tomato, and Death Valley hot sauce on the side.

This year Iowa’s burger was put up against New York’s Best Burger is the “Holy Smokers Burger” Ale ‘n’ Angus Pub in Syracuse. This burger consists of an 8oz Certified Angus Beef patty topped with smoked beef brisket, pepper jack cheese, house-made seasoned onion straws, and house-made brown sugar BBQ sauce, all on a delicious Pretzel Bun.
